Well known for its Guinness and quiet times, Blakes is a look back into the past (bought by Richard Herbert in 1887) and is an ever popular spot in this tourist town. The pub was bought over in 1929 by William Blake. It is almost unique in that it is a listed building both outside and inside.
Enjoy the tiny snug at the front door, stay awhile at the bar with its marble top, huge sherry casks, tiled floor and wood panelled walls, or climb the steps to what was the office. Behind this is the snug with bell pushes and, further back, a large room with more bell pushes and a cast iron fire surround.
Sadly it has gone upmarket with a nightclub and modernity.
This is one of the "Famous Pubs Trail".
